Foundations
The Whittier Trust Company provides advice on philanthropic strategies including creating private foundations, annual charitable giving, or handling grants. We have experts who are able to develop targeted philanthropic programs and can facilitate a discussion of the intergenerational family issues surrounding the philanthropic mission of the family and the governance of charitable vehicles.
Services include:
- Performance of accounting services on an annual basis;
- Assisting the board of directors of the foundation in preparing its foundation application guidelines;
- Monitoring foundation activities to ensure compliance with Internal Revenue Service, Franchise Tax Board, and Attorney General regulations;
- Maintenance of administration files for the Foundation;
- Preparation of the checks and grant agreements for each contribution;
- Preparation of annual reports covering the Foundation’s commitments, contributions paid and requests for funding;
- Assisting with the preparation of documents for meetings of the Board of Directors;
- Review requests for support from charitable organizations;
- Provide quarterly financial and accounting reports;
- Visit public charities that have been or may be considered by the foundation;
- Provide interim reports for the Foundation;
- Work with a donor or donors to establish a private foundation.
