Investment Management
The Whittier Trust Company has a menu of investment options that allows us to tailor an investment program to the unique financial objectives of each client.
First, we work with a client to set investment parameters, such as return objectives, risk tolerance, taxes, and income requirements. Then, we develop a diversified portfolio of marketable securities and alternative investments. Our goal is to produce maximum long-term, after-tax returns, subject to the client’s constraints.
Marketable securities (such as stocks and bonds) form the core investment vehicle for most accounts because they offer liquidity, tax deferral potential, diversification, and readily measurable returns.
Alternative investments (such as real estate, oil and gas, and venture capital) may also be appropriate for many investors. They offer the opportunity for diversification and higher potential returns, although they may be illiquid and carry proportionately higher risk. Whittier Trust Company has developed internal capabilities and external contacts to access these often inefficient investment areas.
Many of our clients prefer to avoid broad swings in performance. Whittier Trust Company’s investment approach includes consistency as a performance goal. A carefully balanced, diversified combination of equity styles can reduce volatility without sacrificing return. Client circumstances and requirements dictate the extent of diversification.
