Equity Management

The Whittier Trust Company offers a broad menu of equity investment styles. Our primary equity portfolio, called the Corporate America Portfolio, is designed to beat the stock market while maintaining a comparable level of risk.  The Corporate America Portfolio is the largest component of our typical client’s equity holdings.  It provides diversification across all major US economic sectors and has approximately the same yield, volatility and valuation characteristics as the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index.  Most Corporate America portfolios will hold approximately 90 securities that we believe are undervalued relative to their earnings growth rates.

Some clients prefer that Whittier Trust Company “tilt” their Corporate America portfolio to include more of either Growth (faster earnings growth) or Value (lower valuations) stocks.  We can easily accommodate these style adjustments. As with all of our internally managed strategies, we are very sensitive to taxes in all taxable accounts.  We frequently build portfolios around low cost basis holdings.
