John Philip Coghlan has spent over 25 years in the financial services industry.  Mr. Coghlan brings his experience with the brokerage business, wealth management, retirement services, corporate trust, and credit and debit card, and payment processing services to Whittier Trust Company as a member of our board.  He has served as President and CEO of Visa USA and as Vice Chairman for The Charles Schwab Corporation.  Mr. Coghlan was the co-founder and COO of San Francisco Grocery Express, Ltd. and has served as a senior associate for a public policy consulting firm in Washington, D.C.

 

Mr. Coghlan received his BA in Psychology, with honors, in Social Thought from Stanford University.  He received his MA in Economics and Public Policy from Princeton University and his MBA from Harvard University.  Mr. Coghlan has additionally served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of San Francisco and the San Francisco State University.

 

Mr. Coghlan is active in the San Francisco community.  He is a board member for the KIPP Bay Area Schools, the Glide Foundation, Birst, Inc., and Life360.  He is a Partner at the early-stage venture fund, Seraph Group, LLC.
